NARRATIVE

“When a resolute young fellow steps up to the great bully, the world, and takes him boldly by the beard, he is often surprised to find it comes off in his hand, and that it was only tied on to scare away the timid adventurers.”

My name is Nate Barker.

I'm a husband, dad, a jack of all trades and a master of some. I've been a video producer, small business owner, band manager, music festival director, pastor, webmaster, marketing assistant, TV producer, pizza delivery guy, theater nerd, rental manager, carpenter, Hospice bereavement counselor, maintenance man, mail room clerk, copy editor, landscaper, coffee delivery man....and a few other things.

I'm no great thinker or artist. I just like to create.
It might be writing, it might be art, it might be something educational.

Waterford, Connecticut was home base for my growing up years and where I created my first video masterpiece in 1988; a home improvement show. From that prestigious springboard, my middle school film career was launched.  A few years later I started writing fiction when my dad brought home our family's first computer; a used Apple Macintosh Plus.

A lot has happened since then and I've gained a wealth of experience working in television, marketing, non-profits, and other fields. My writing tends to bend toward literary fiction, so be prepared for anything.

I've written nonfiction pieces for The Mennonite, the website Obscure Histories, and contributed to the book "Thank You For Asking, Conversing with Young Adults about the Future Church."

I now live in the small town of Croghan, NY at the foothills of the Adirondacks.  I make it home with my wife, 3 children, an elderly dog, a fecal incontinent cat, and plenty of local wildlife; from coyotes and mink to porcupines and black flies;
